Translate extracted text for a reviewed reading copy

Translate text helps you understand supported document text in another language using models that run locally. The result is shown in the workspace, where you can read and copy it, with an optional formatted PDF download. It is a text translation workflow, not a promise to reproduce every original page layout, figure or table in the target language.

Supported choices involve English, French, German, Spanish, Arabic and Chinese. Some non-English pairs use English as an intermediate language. That can introduce additional ambiguity and is disclosed in the tool. This differs from the summary feature’s direct source-language sentence selection. A supported pair does not imply certified or universally accurate translation.

Translate a manageable section first

1. Open the PDF and check that its extracted text is readable.
2. Select the source and target languages and the required page range.
3. Allow the necessary model assets to download on first use.
4. Generate the translation and review it on screen.
5. Copy reviewed text or download a reading-copy PDF, then inspect the saved layout.

For scans, apply appropriate OCR and verify important wording before translation. A model cannot reliably restore a missing negation or a misread digit from context alone. Multi-column extraction can also combine unrelated sentences. Check the input stage when a result sounds fluent but does not match the page.

Review meaning and facts independently

Compare names, dates, amounts, units and reference numbers with the source. Check whether a date format is ambiguous and whether a decimal separator changed only in presentation or in value. Preserve identifiers exactly when they should not be translated. A natural-sounding sentence with a wrong amount is still an incorrect result.

Review obligations, permissions, exceptions and uncertainty. “Must,” “may” and “should” can lead to different actions. A qualification in the following sentence may be necessary to interpret the translated claim. For technical documents, keep a glossary of recurring terms and check that translations remain appropriate and consistent in context.

Tables and lists need structural review. Correctly translated labels can become detached from their values if the source extraction lost alignment. Do not present an uncertain reconstructed table as reliable data. Refer to the original page or prepare a separately verified structured version where needed.

Inspect multilingual layout

Arabic text can combine right-to-left wording with left-to-right numbers and Latin names. Check shaping, punctuation and mixed-script order in both the workspace and downloaded PDF. Chinese has different line-breaking conventions from Latin text. If you cannot read the target language, obtain a competent review rather than judging accuracy from tidy typography.

The formatted PDF is a visual reading copy. It is not a certified translation or a restored editable edition of the source. Use the on-screen copy action when you need text for further review, and keep the original alongside the derivative. Label shared results honestly according to whether they received human review.
