Capabilities and limitationsRemove unnecessary pages from a delivery copy
Removing pages is useful for blank scan backs, duplicate covers or material that does not belong in a particular delivery. The operation creates a new PDF containing the pages you keep. It does not edit the content within those pages, and it should not be used to imply that a shortened record is the complete original.
Decide what can legitimately be omitted before using the tool. A seemingly blank page may be an intentional separator for duplex printing. An appendix may contain a qualification needed to understand a result. A signature page may be necessary for the document’s intended use. Check the recipient’s requirements and retain an original copy before shortening the file.
Select the pages to discard carefully
- Open the source and inspect its physical page count.
- Select the pages to remove, using thumbnails or the supported range entry.
- Review the selection as a list of discarded pages, not retained pages.
- Make sure at least one page will remain, then create the result.
- Download and reopen the shortened PDF for a final review.
The distinction between Remove pages and Extract pages is easy to reverse. Remove pages takes away the selected positions; Extract pages keeps them. Check the tool name and selection meaning before processing. If you are unsure, use a small test copy and inspect its output rather than making assumptions based on a familiar range field.
Check the new boundaries
Subtract the number removed from the original count and compare it with the output. Inspect the pages immediately before and after each removed section. This catches accidental removal of a continuation page and confirms that the reading sequence still makes sense. Check the first and last pages as well, because covers and end pages often carry useful identifying information.
Printed page numbers are part of the visible source content and may now have gaps. That can be appropriate when you are sharing an excerpt, but it can confuse a reader expecting a continuous new document. Decide whether to retain original references or create a clearly explained new numbering scheme. Do not conceal omissions by renumbering a formal record without considering the context.
Links, bookmarks and references to removed pages may no longer behave as expected. Inspect them if they are important to the recipient. A page-removal operation does not automatically rewrite every sentence that says “see page 12.” The new document may need editorial review beyond the mechanical deletion of pages.
Removal is not a complete sanitization workflow
Sensitive information can appear on retained pages, in visible headers or within document-level structures. Use the dedicated Redact and Sanitize tools for those distinct requirements. Do not describe a shortened file as fully sanitized merely because the most obvious confidential page is gone. Review the exact downloaded copy before sharing it.
Signed records need separate treatment. Rebuilding a document with fewer pages changes the file and should not be represented as preserving an original certificate signature over the new result. Keep the signed original and follow the applicable document-control process. For printing, test whether removing blank pages changes duplex placement or chapter starts.
Use the booklet guide when blank pages may be intentional, and the metadata guide when the purpose is privacy rather than simple organisation. A good shortened copy is complete for its stated purpose and clearly distinguishable from its source.
Frequently asked questions
Are selected pages kept or removed?
They are removed. Use Extract pages when the selection represents the pages you want to keep.
Can I remove every page?
No. At least one page must remain to create a usable PDF result.
Will printed page numbers be updated?
No. Existing numbers remain visible content and can contain gaps after removal.
Should I remove all blank pages before booklet printing?
Not automatically. Some blanks are intentional for page pairing or section starts. Review the printing plan first.
Does this delete the original from my device?
No. It creates a new output. Keep the source separately until you have verified the result and any retention requirements.
